Is windows mesenger and MSN the same?

Windows Messenger comes pre-installed with the XP platform. MSN Messenger is available by download and I (from experience) like using this much better. More features - more flexibility. Worth the d/l.

their basic use is the same but by looks and performance they are different. like msn has animated emoctions .. backgrounds .. winks .. handwriting text and all but windows messenger is very simple. plus the best feature in MSN latest version i.e. 7.5 is that you can sign in appearing offline which is not available in windows messenger.
