How do I turn off Yahoo mesenger so it doesn't sign in when I turn on my computer?
try some of these methods. uninstall it, either through the add/remove programs in control panel, or in start menu, program files. yahoo files, uninstaller file, just click it.
OR if you can find the settings, or options tab, there should be a check box saying sign in automatically, uncheck it.
OR try start menu, program files, look for startup items, click and hold down(drag and drop) drag the yahoo file out of startup and drop it into online services or any other file list that isnt important, like into accessories.
Note that you can turn it off by right clicking on the taskbar icon and clicking EXIT or close.
OR you could block it maybe, if you have a service, like windows defender, onecare or whatever.
If you just want to stop it firing up, then try turning off the service in task manager, which is a list of running programs, found by keyboard shortcut...ctrl +alt+delete....its ok this wont delete anything, but on older machines or in DOS this will probably restart your machine. once in task manager, you can right click on the running service and select priority, change it to low, or stop the process by ending the process tree, probably not the best thing to do in case you click the wrong process, but it will work.
Of Course remember that this may be a BETA version, check first, if it is, then you are best to uninstall it completely, then reload it when you want it back, from yahoo website, aside from all this, IT IS A very good program, once you get used to running it, lots of great features, compatible with msn messenger and other stuff too, voice is a real first, but i understand that it may be a bit much if you always turn your pc off and on,its full of complex code that needs a bit of time to load up, and will insist on internet connection, you can remove your sign in name or email address from the box, select it and delete it, then it cannot find anything. But hey, play with it a bit, it wont bite you, and i am sure you can get a newer download if it crashes out, the program that is ,not your pc.hope this helps a bit, remember, you will learn from your mistakes, but stay cool, dont mess up late at night...or you might not sleep well, leave it until the morning when you are all clear headed and fresh thinking...works wonders...good luck. Andy.
Reply:The simplest method is this:
Sign into Yahoo Messenger.
In the Yahoo Messenger main window's menu bar, go to Messenger %26gt; Preferences.
In the list on left side of Preferences window, click General.
On the right side, under "When I start up my computer", uncheck (the box should no longer have a tick mark) "Automatically start Yahoo! Messenger"
Click OK.
That should do.
